Karver & Moody. A very special human relationship
One of the peculiarities of Karver is the very high rate of passionate navigators who work there. Both in the design team and the sales team. As such, all brands of sailboats are of interest to us but we have a special history with Moody.
THE FRANGLAIS
This is the story of the Moody 46 Carabiner “Franglais” and of a family story. This Moody was manufactured in 1975 for a French owner then bought a few years later by Mr. Pierre Clausin. The boat is then moored at the port of Deauville.
Pierre Clausin is the father of the founder and president of Karver: Marin Clausin.
A LAB TEST BOAT
The story within the history is that Pierre Clausin is the founder of the Profurl brand, which has since been acquired by the Wichard group. Marin was predestined to continue the industrial adventure of his father but he preferred the creation of Karver for a positioning closer to the world of racing and super yachts.
The “Franglais” is a unique sailboat because she was used by both the father and the son as a test laboratory. First for Profurl products and now for Karver products. Connoisseurs will still find some beautiful relics and in particular the prototypes of the MKIII furling booms.
A FAMILY LINK. A LEGACY.
Beyond the technical aspect, the “Franglais” was above all the sailboat of Marin’s adolescence. There are therefore some more or less secret anecdotes that circulate around this festive period. When Pierre Clausin died in 2015, Marin and his brother made it a point of honour to keep the boat in perfect condition. And that was no small task! You will not find many Moody cruising sailboats of this era with so much equipment. Genset, water maker, inverter, state-of-the-art electronics, SSB, safety and survival equipment. And most of this equipment is doubled in the event of a failure. The “Franglais” was equipped to go around the world several times.
THE STORY CONTINUES
And the story does not stop there! After several years of keeping the “Franglais” in good condition, Marin and his brother reluctantly decided to sell it in 2017. A sailboat like the “Franglais” cannot stay docked. She has to navigate. The happy new owner, Joël, is a very experienced Captain in the Merchant Navy. He was even the captain of the French 3-masted school ship Le Belem. The story that links the Clausin family and the “Franglais” is so strong that Joël feels this connection. Several times a year, he invites the family to come on board for beautiful cruises and the “Franglais” continues to serve as a test boat for our new products.
KRS KARVER HEADSAIL REFFING FURLERS
On the occasion of the launch of our new headsail reefing furlers, it seemed obvious to us to use the image of the “Franglais” to promote this new range. The KRS headsail reefing furlers are like her. Elegant, robust and with all options (elliptical profiles, black anodization, double groove, low profile drum design, etc.).
Each boat has her own history, but if one day you come across the “Franglais”, you will inevitably have an informed and tenderized eye.
